Product Description
Dracaena fragrans, commonly known as the Corn Plant or Massangeana, is a beloved ornamental plant cherished for its graceful foliage, ease of care, and air-purifying properties. Originating from tropical regions of Africa, including Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Western Africa, this evergreen shrub has become a staple in interior landscaping due to its striking appearance and versatility. In addition to its ornamental value, Dracaena fragrans is renowned for its air-purifying qualities. It helps remove toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene from indoor air, making it an excellent choice for improving indoor air quality. While Dracaena fragrans is a beautiful and beneficial plant, it is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of cats, dogs, and other animals to prevent accidental ingestion.
Planting Instructions
- Place a layer of small stones or broken pottery at the bottom of the pot to improve drainage.
- Fill the pot with the prepared potting mix, leaving enough space to accommodate the plant’s root ball.
- Gently remove the Dracaena fragrans from its nursery container, taking care not to damage the roots.
- Position the plant in the center of the pot and fill in the remaining space with the potting mix, pressing down lightly to secure the plant.
- Ensure that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
Plant Care
- Maintain indoor temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) for optimal growth.
- Dracaena fragrans prefers moderate to high humidity levels. If the air is dry, mist the leaves occasionally or place a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles beneath the plant.
- Water the plant thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure that excess water drains freely from the pot’s drainage holes.
- Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering.
- Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
