Product Description

Oregano, also known as Pot Marjoram is a perennial herb with rose-purple or white flowers and a taste reminiscent of thyme. This aromatic, ancient culinary herb, is native to temperate western and southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region. The plant is slightly pungent, spicy and bitter in flavor and is commonly used in Italian dishes.The scientific name of the plant is Origanum vulgare. Oregano can be grown in herb garden as a ground cover or in containers. It prefers a hot and dry climate and does not often survive in winters.

Instructions for planting

  1. Do ensure to place the plant in full exposure to sunlight for a strong flavor.
  2. For a head start, plant Oregano 6 to 10 weeks before the last spring frost.
  3. Plant the seeds/cuttings in well-drained soil with the soil temperature around 70ºF.
  4. The oregano plant grows 1 to 2 feet tall and spread about 18 inches, so it is preferable to plant it 8 to 10 inches apart.
  5. Oregano thrives better in the well-drained and sandy soil.

Instructions for care

  1. Once the Plant is about 4 inches tall it should be trimmed lightly to encourage a denser and bushier plant.
  2. Regular trimming should be practiced to avoid legginess.
  3. It is better to water the plant thoroughly and less often. Water the plant only when the soil feels dry to touch.
  4. If you have planted Oregano in a container, water it until the water comes out of the drainage holes.
  5. Be sure, oregano is well drained to prevent any diseases as Oregano is prone to diseases like root and stem rots.
  6. Do ensure proper pest control to save the plant from pests like Aphids and Spider Mites.
