Product Description

Chlorophytum comosum, often called spider plant is a flowering perennial herb. The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is considered one of the most adaptable of houseplants and the easiest to grow. The spider plant is so named because of its spider-like plants, or spiderettes, which dangle down from the mother plant like spiders on a web. These spiderettes often start out as small white flowers. Spider Plant is an impressive houseplant for beginners. It’s easy to care for, tolerates average room conditions, and is easy to propagate.

    Instructions for planting:

  • Grow in soil-based potting mix in bright to moderate sunlight, but not directly facing hot sun.
  • Maintain average room temperature and humidity.
  • Cut the plantlet from the stolon with a pair of scissors. Plantlets are small and have leaves growing from their crown.
  • Fill a small jar or cup with water. Let the water sit for 24 hours so the chlorine dissipates. Place the base of the plantlet into water and allow its leaves to extend past the lid of the cup or jar.
  • Place the plantlet in indirect sunlight. Full sun may kill the baby plant before it has a chance to grow roots.
  • Place the plantlet into the pot once the roots reach about 3 inches in about 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Cover only the roots with soil and water the plant liberally, until the soil is moist, but not overly wet.
  • Place the pot in indirect light.
  • Check the soil once every six or seven days and add more water if it is dry.
    Instructions for care:

  • Give your plant bright, indirect light to maintain the variegation on the leaves.
  • Keep plant out of direct sunlight because it can burn leaves.
  • Keep soil evenly moist.
  • Use distilled or rainwater to prevent brown leaf tips on your plant.
  • Moderate indoor humidity.
  • Average room temps suit this tropical plant perfectly. It doesn’t like the cold; don’t expose it to anything below 50°F/10°C.
  • Fertilize twice a month in the spring and summer, however, avoid over fertilization.
  • If located in an area that receives large amounts of light, fertilize once every two months.
  • To rid of the brown discs on leaves, use your fingernail to remove the brown residue every few days.
